Ceramics Flora

Initially having trained and worked as a primary school teacher, I came to clay as another way to be creative and to work with my hands. I learnt to hand build whilst living in Spain. I used terracotta clay, often locally sourced and made slips and terra-sigilatta to decorate the surface of decorative pieces. I was able to explore the joy and unpredictability of a range of firings, including pit and raku.

Living in London and Sheringham, North Norfolk, has meant using an electric kiln and during the last few years, I have produced a range of tableware that happily sits in both modern and traditional decors. Each piece is handmade from start to finish and embraces the slow pace that comes with this age-old practice. The clay is the humble star in this process and is finished with self-made glazes; clay and glaze interact and interplay to produce unique, individual items.
